A masterpiece of Gothic art are the stained glass windows of the Cathedral of Chartres, built between 1194 and 1250.
Made with small fragments of colored glass joined by lead strips, they represent a masterpiece whose techniques are unfortunately lost today.
For my study I chose a scene that is part of the Tree of Jesse, located on the facade of the cathedral,
My reproduction was created with ecolines and marker outlines.

First I reproduced the pencil drawing on watercolor paper, with all the details, and it is incredible how much skill, how much attention to every single fold of the leaves the masters of antiquity put.
I then colored with a marker the lines that correspond to the lead profiles of the glass are indelible black.

I then began the brush coloring with ecoline, particularly transparent colored inks to try to make the bright colors of the stained glass, starting from the famous Chartres blue, created by the glass artisans in France at the time and protected by professional secrecy.

I then completed the reproduction with the other colors and the hatched shades.
