Digital Herbarium, all posts

I am learning more and more every year about edible wild herbs, plants and flowers, and I thought I would collect my notes, photos and knowledge here on my website.

In this way I will soon be able to review the knowledge I have already acquired about the few plants I am sure of. They are mostly notes for me, to put my thoughts in order, then if it can be useful to someone, that is fine, but you always have to be careful about what you collect, because many plants and herbs are toxic and even deadly.

When collecting wild herbs and plants, especially if you want to eat them, these are the basic rules:

  • be absolutely sure of what you are collecting
  • if you don’t know something, or you are not sure, leave it where it is
  • collect edible herbs in places far from pollution
  • collect safely, with gloves and protection
  • collect in a way that does not irreparably damage the plant
  • collect only what you need
  • find out if there are collection bans in your area

The herbs that I have decided to include in this digital herbarium are those that I am sure of, that I have direct knowledge of, I generally collect them here in Veneto, so I also indicate the common names with which we call them in Veneto. The herbs that do not yet have their own page I still have to study well.

I also add my notes and the recipes that I have tried with these herbs.

And remember: you only see what you know. And you only love what you know.
